Home Remedies for Menopause

Mood swings, sweating, hot flashes, insomnia, among other symptoms are experienced by many women when they reach menopause. Officially, menopause has come when women stop menstruating for one year. When a woman arrives at this period of her life, her ovaries begin to produce much less of the hormones produced before. This fluctuation in hormones is the cause for all the symptoms of menopause. Ground flaxseed - Add two tablespoons of ground flaxseed to your cereal. Flaxseed contains phytoestrogens, compounds with estrogen properties.

Sage to control sweating - Take 3 to 15 drops of tincture of sage in half cup of water three times a day. Sage contains astringent properties that will help dry up sweating.

Acupressure - To relieve night sweats, hot flashes, and anxiety. Treat the points for two minutes eac, every other day. a) Using your thumb or fingertip, apply pressure with a firm circling motion to the acupressure point that is half a thumb-width above the wrist crease, on the little-finger side of the forearm. b) Apply firm stationary pressure using your thumb to the acupressure point that is a thumb-width below the tip of the inside ankle bone.

Alfalfa infusion - Boil two tablespoons of alfalfa seeds in lemon water for ten minutes. Drink this infusion three times a day to alleviate hot flashes.

Tofu - Tofu might help relieve hot flashes because of its high content in isoflavones, a chemical compound that resembles human estrogen.

Food and exercise - Avoid alcohol, coffee, and spicy foods because they increase sweating. Make at least 20 minutes of aerobic exercise daily. This will help to balance hormone levels and to improve mood and sleep.

Kiwi - This fruit is very useful in relieving symptoms of menopause as it contains phytoestrogens.
