Home Remedies for Hemorrhoids

Rectal pain, itching, and bleeding are the common symptoms of hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are veins in the anus that have inflamed either because the person spends a long time sitting, or he/she suffers from constipation and strains to evacuate, or because of pregnancy. There are many creams and suppositories sold in pharmacies that help relieve hemorrhoids. But there are also natural remedies you may want to try.

A hot tub bath - Add a few teaspoons of Epsom salts to the bath water. The hot water increases blood supply to the affected area and reduces the inflammation of the veins. The Epsom salts help shrink the hemorrhoids.

A tea bag - For external hemorrhoids put a wet, warm tea bag in the affected area. Another option is to soak a compress in cold, strong black tea and apply.

Onion paste - Blend a red onion, unsalted butter, and three purple garlic cloves. Apply the paste to the rectum at night. After a week you will notice a big improvement.

Comfrey or calendula (marigold) - Look in naturist stores for balms that contain these plants. Use as directed.

Aloe vera gel - Apply the gel of an aloe vera leaf on the affected area after bowel movements.

Onion and milk - Peel four onions and cut into large pieces. Add them to a half gallon of milk. Cover and warm over low heat. Remove the pot from the stove and carefully put it under the toilet seat. Sit back and relax, and let the steam relieve the hemorrhoids. Complete treatment by putting some Vaseline on the affected area.

Llanten ointment - 1 tablespoon of virgin wax, 1 teaspoon of lanolin, 10 llanten leaves, 100 ml of olive oil. Mince llanten leaves and put them in a pot with the olive oil. Place pot over low heat for 30 minutes. Let stand for 24 hours. After this time, strain and re-heat. Add wax and lanolin. When it cools, apply ointment to the affected area.
