Natural Remedies for Eczema

The most common places for eczema are the folds of the skin, elbows, knees, or above the eyebrows on the face. Sometimes it is due to allergies or food intolerance. An effective remedy to prevent the onset of eczema is to take wheat germ oil or two Evening Primrose Pearls before each meal. Other remedies include:

Milk - Apply a cotton ball soaked with cold milk on the affected area. This will relieve itching.

Clay Ointment - 1 liter of water, 6-8 tablespoons shavegrass, clay. Put the shavegrass in the water and boil for 10 minutes over low heat. Strain. Mix some of this infusion with a little clay. Apply ointment to affected area and let it dry. After 20 minutes rinse the area with the shavegrasss water that was left.

Oats bath - When taking a tub bath, add colloidal oatmeal to the water. The oats will alleviate the skin.

Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) - After bathing lubricate the skin with Vaseline. The eczema gets worse when the skin is very dry.

Avoid contact with detergent and water - If you have a dish washer, use it often. Otherwise, use lined rubber gloves when washing dishes. Do not use latex gloves.

Omega-3 fatty acids - Eat foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as avocado, tuna, salmon, and nuts.

Short baths - Have your baths or showers last 10 minutes. Avoid very hot water and scented soaps.

Shavegrass compress - Put 1 teaspoon dried shavegrass in a cup of water and boil for 15 minutes. Let it cool. Wet a cotton cloth in the solution and wring so there is no dripping water.
